Cherry Pierogies
Sour Cherry Vareniki
Dark sour cherries sealed in tender dough, the taste of a summer kitchen. Serve warm with sugar or sour cream.
Sour cherries turn into their own sweet-tart sauce inside the dough, so each pierogi arrives with dessert built in. This is the bag grandchildren put in formal requests for, and the one that disappears first at family tables. Let everyone stir a spoonful of sugar into cold sour cream for dipping, and pour any juice left in the bowl back over the top.

How we cook them at home
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a rolling boil.
- Add the frozen pierogies straight from the bag and give them one good stir so nothing sticks.
- When the water comes back to a boil, cook five to eight minutes, until they float and the dough turns tender.
- Drain gently, then finish sweet: a dusting of sugar, a spoonful of sour cream, or melted butter and jam.
